(1) Unfortunately Duchesnea indica slides chromosome spreads were not able to be used for FISH so a comparison with Fragaria could not be done.
(2) The results of FISH agree with previous reports of 5S rDNA loss in octoploid Fragaria and show that no new loss of 18S-25S sites occurred in the cultivated hybrid as 10 sites were detected in this study.
(3) Three 18S-25S rDNA sites were detected on SAT chromosomes in prometaphase chromosomes, which is one more than a previous report on Fragaria species. This may be due to one of the secondary constrictions visible here being a result of one chromosome folding, or this may be unique to cultivated Fragara x ananassa.
(4) To my knowledge, there is no report of FISH in cultivated Fragaria x ananassa. These results provide new information on 5S and 18S rDNA site conservation after hybridization between F. chiloensis and F. virginiana.
